National Reserve "Castles of Ternopil" is based on the castle complex in the town Zbarazh, and as a historical and architectural reserve, it was created in 1994. The reserve is based on the architectural complex of the 17th century - Zbarazh castle, the Church of the Transfiguration, and construction related to the Monastery of Bernardine Fathers. However, not only these facilities, but also others in the city and the region make up the reserve.
Nowadays, historical and architectural reserve "Castles of Ternopil" holds a lot of exhibitions, tours, and continues its scientific work. Vishnevetsky architectural and landscape complex joined the Reserve in 1999. This complex is a monument of national scale, which refers to the 14-19 centuries.
Its present name National Reserve "Castles of Ternopil" received in January 2005. Several years earlier, in Skalat, Pidvolochisk district, was created a branch of the reserve. National Reserve carries out a restoration work, in addition, it is science, functioning stock commission, library and even a restoration workshop here. The reserve has its own newspaper. Zbarazh castle, which is the basis of the national reserve, has over 25 exhibition halls that represent the various permanent exhibitions on different themes. In addition, in some rooms of the castle are exhibited the works of Ukrainian artists - paintings, embroidery, sculpture and more.
Another seven castles joined the National Reserve "Castles of Ternopil" in 2008. Now they are castle in Terebovlya, Mikulinetsky castle, castles in Buchach, Yazlovets and Zolotoy Potok and two fortresses - in Kryvche and Skala Podolska. Eleventh castle of the reserve became a complex in Chertkov.
